help needed!
Hey everyone,

I am knitting my first project today...naturally, it's a house scarf (Gryffindor year 1 and 2 style). I'm not followinga particular pattern (because i cannot decipher them). I am knitting on US size 8 straight needles and alternating rows of knit stitch and purl stitch. I've got 3 rows done last night because I kept screwing up and having to restart. My big problem is my cast on is too tight, and well, subsequently everything is too tight. I am probably going to restart again tonight and make it looser.

Any tips on knitting a scarf evenly with straight needles?

sweet! Thanks! I already know I have my expectations WAY too high for my first project...and I am a perfectionist (hence it took me like, 6 hours to do three rows last night lmao and the reason I am starting over) eventually I want to do house mittens and hats and perhaps fingerless mittens...then maybe switch to crocheting.

I sum this sudden ambition up to being in mourning for the series...yes the books were done ages ago...now that themovies are it makes it more final. lol
