OotP Ginny Vest
Hi All,

Well, I finally got my hot little hands on the OotP DVD and tried to make screen caps of Ginny during the movie's last scene; there had been some discussion this summer about the vest she was wearing.  Screen caps didn't work (so much for my attempts at "Print Screen"), so I put my limited artistic talents to work.  See

It looks to me like the vest is a hoodie, unless it has one of those sailor collars, which seems less likely.   It is a bolero, not a shrug, meaning that the two fronts are knit independently of the back.  It also appears that the sides do not have any shaping and that they hang pretty straight.

I think Chicknits' Cutaway pattern could be used and adjusted.  This free Lion Brand pattern could also be used, but the gauge must be adjusted.  To access the pattern, you need to register, but it's free.

I wish I knew enough to write a pattern for this, but I hope this sketch will add to the one linked below and that it will inspire the adventurous knitters among us!

Hope you had a terrific Christmas!

P.S.:  Here are the links to the two initial discussions on the subject:

Oooh, that is a much better sketch than mine. I want to make it, but that mustard colour is not something I would wear often... O_o Maybe I'll tackle that over the next week; I'm not doing anything else and I need something exciting to do!

If you download VLC media player (you can get it free at downloads.com), you can take screenshots with that. I would totally take the shots for you, but for some reason VLC messes up windows media player, which I need, on my computer. It's a shame, because VLC is great!

Thanks! I'll give it a whirl, although WMP is what plays my DVDs... Maybe I can toodle around a bit.

Ginny's Vest
Hmm... I've been looking at it and I think its constructed differently.

I posted some screenshots to ravelry, not sure how to do that here - but to me it looks like the cables do not extend past the bust, and it has hexagon shapes knitted together in a modular style, almost. I keep trying to find a shot of the bottom and haven't been able to manage it.

I'm going to try and post it, I apologize if it doesn't work!

Okay, its really weird, but you'll eventually be able to see it if you move your mouse up and down the screen.

Oh! And here's an even better one, showing the texture!

Re: Ginny's Vest
Hi! Sorry for the exceedingly late reply to your post, and thanks so much for your efforts at posting the pic of this lovely vest! A good close look makes me think it's crocheted. As it turns out, though, that one is different from the one she wears in the movie's final scene. It may be some time before I can sit down and work on screen caps, so bear with me; DH and I are in the throes of home improvement.

Thanks again!
